7 Tips For A Successful Spring Cleaning
Spring is near! Although the cold, indecisive weather may make that seem laughable, the familiar sounds of the birds chirping and the sight and scent of fresh blooms will return in only a short month’s time. As the weather warms up, we will want to spend as much time outside enjoying it as possible, which can leave some household chores on the back burner.
Getting a head start on your Spring cleaning will leave you feeling refreshed and less stressed. Here are 7 Tips For A Succesful Spring Cleaning:
1. MAKE A PLAN
Spring cleaning can be daunting, with all the chores and tasks you’ve been avoiding throughout the year finally seeming to come to a head. While you may have an intimidating to-do list ahead of you, it is nothing a well-laid-out plan can’t help. Making a plan breaks up the tasks, defines a timeline, and enables you to stay on track with everything you need to get done. Plus, you’ll feel a sense of achievement every time you check off an item from your list.
2. INVOLVE THE HOUSEHOLD
Once again, there will probably be a long to-do list ahead, and this can be an overwhelming feat for an individual to tackle alone. Break up the work by divvying it up among members of the household. This will get the job done faster and remove stress from each individual’s plate.
3. CLEAN ROOM BY ROOM
Incorporate cleaning room by room into your “plan” from tip number one. Creating checklists of tasks specific to a room can help you stay focused on completing an entire area before moving on to the next. Assigning rooms to different individuals is also an easy way to break up work between the household and remain efficient in your Spring clean.
4. ORGANIZE AND DECLUTTER
We’re all guilty of having that drawer, closet, or room that houses everything that doesn’t really have a “proper place.” Spaces like this quickly pile up and become a disorganized hodge-podge of stuff. Take the time during your Spring cleaning to organize that junk drawer, rearrange that guest room closet, and clear out that spare bedroom “home gym” that looks more like a catchall.
5. DONATE OLD CLOTHES
Something that takes up a lot of space and lends to an unorganized home is unwanted and unused clothing. We all have that pile of five-year-old jeans we swear we’ll fit into again or that top that went out of style in 2015, but we’re holding onto in the hope it will make a trendy fashion comeback. Go through your closet piece by piece and ask yourself if the item is something you’ve worn recently or plan to wear soon; otherwise, toss it in a donation pile and leave the space for your practical items.
6. TACKLE SEASONAL CHORES
Spring cleaning is also a great time to tackle seasonal chores to prepare you for the warm Spring and Summer months. Pack away winter clothes you know you won’t be wearing, get your patio furniture out of storage, change your air filters, and modify home decor to give a fresh and bright feeling.
7. ESTABLISH NEW CLEANING HABITS
Once you’ve completed your Spring cleaning, take the time to reflect on what worked well, what took the longest, what were the biggest problem areas, etc. These notes can help you establish more consistent cleaning habits in neglected areas, making them a breeze to tackle when Spring cleaning time rolls around the following year!
